- Conduct short-term training modules for members of the National and State Assemblies and their staff.
- Operate as a multi-disciplinary Institute capable of providing world class training, capacity building, research and policy analysis services for the legislature at theFederal, State and Local government levels.
- Provide the legislators and officials with institutionalized opportunities for problem-oriented studies and systematic training in the various disciplines of legislative institutions, processes and procedures improve capacity of Legislators to sustain and consolidate democratic governance through policy formulation.
- Improve the technical capacity of legislative staffs, committee secretaries and political aides to process appropriation bills and policy oversight of the Executive.
- Train on a continuous basis middle and senior level manpower for the National, State and Local government legislators; and
- Assist the National Assembly and State House of Assemblies in their efforts to draft bills.
- Collaborate with local, national and international institutions and non-governmental agencies with similar objectives.

11. ACADEMIC CURRICULUM: the Institute has a well developed curriculum in line with the global modern legislative practices. The curriculum was developed by session experts of international reputes, comprising of law academia, political scientists and sociologists drawn from the University.
Past and Present Projects:
For the ILS office to ensure progress with the implementation of identified action plans and objectives ILS ensures proper monitoring and partnering with individuals, offices, and committees in the University essential to implementing and executing action items identified in the plan.
Because there is much to accomplish, ILS wants to ensure that it prioritizes its action plans with a balanced set of the action items to concretize a footing for future work. Below are the set of goals, objectives, and general themes reflecting sub-categories of identified action steps derived from the Action Plan Planning Working Committee’s conversations, document review efforts, and assessment of critical matters. - 14th February, 2024, the lecture titled ‘Forstering Legislative Governance through Capacity Building: Lesson from the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies’, was delivered by the Director General of NILDS Professor Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman.
- 1st July, 2024: the lecture organized in conjunction with the Department of Political Science was titled ‘Constitutional Amendment and Political Dynamic of State Policing in Nigeria’. It was delivered by the National Assembly Senate Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele CON.
- 30th January, 2025, Conference with the theme ‘Restructuring the Police Articheture in Nigeria; Is the State Police the only Option?’.’ ‘the lead paper presented by Professor Mojeed Olujimi Alabi, Provost College of Law, Ifetedo Campus, Osun State University.
