Introduction

Parliamentary Administration involves the understanding of the theory and practice of the parliament. The Parliamentary Administration Programme of the University of Ilorin is unique because it provides a blend of theoretical and practical exposure to parliamentary officials and other professionals working or intending to work with the parliament.

Philosophy

The philosophy of the programme is hinged on training parliamentary officials and others intending to work with the parliament on ways of improving parliamentary practice in

Nigeria.

Aim and Objectives

Aim

The Master of Parliamentary Administration degree aims at developing thinkers and practitioners with adequate theoretical and practical knowledge of the working of legislatures

Objectives

Upon completion of the programme, graduates would have:

  1. gained sufficient knowledge and skills in parliamentary administration,
  2. acquired adequate theoretical and practical knowledge in parliamentary administration.
  3. acquired the capacity to anticipate, manage and resolve conflicts arising from parliamentary activities.
  4. internalized right values for principled and issue-based interactions with other arms of government.

Admission Requirements

i. A good honours degree not below Third Class Division (Law and Political Science) and in any degree other than Law and Political Science obtained from any recognized University

ii. Five (5) O-Level Credits including English Language and Mathematics

iii. Candidates with a PGD in Constitutional law and Development at credit level pass (i.e.2.5 or 50% and above)

Duration of the Programme

The programme shall be a minimum of 12 months for full-time studentship and 24 months for part-time studentship.

LEG 816 Distinguished Personality Lecture 1 Credit

Seasoned legislators (serving or former)/technocrats/ shall be invited to deliver Distinguished Personality Lectures on specific theme(s) based on practical field experience in legislative practice. The lecture shall be interactive and students would be required to write analytical report on the basis of the cases cited in the lecture. It is also an opportunity for students and faculty to interact with actors whose experience have shaped occurrences in the polity in relations to legislative activities. 45h (P); C
