Introduction

The programme is for the advancement of research and analytical skill in the relevant areas of Parliamentary Administration. The knowledge so acquired should substantially enhance their prospects of gaining employment in various capacities such as academics, professional and otherareas of work.

Philosophy

The philosophy of the programme is for the enhancement of research and professional skills in Parliamentary Administration and ability to function effectively and competitively locally and globally.

Aim and Objectives

Aim

The aim of the programme is to stimulate excellent research and writing skills based on stronger foundation and better understanding of the area of Parliamentary Administration in a contemporary context.

Objectives

  1. Producing graduates of distinction committed to lifelong learning, integrity and professionalism, capable of being responsible leaders and communicatorsin their respective fields.
  2. displaying the ability to deal with Parliamentary Administration; and
  3. developing the ability to analyse, articulate and write on Parliamentary Administration matters.

Admission Requirements

The candidate is required to possess the following:

i. O Level Credits or its equivalent in five subjects including English Language and Mathematics; and

ii. Candidate with Master degree (Law and Political Science) and in any degree other than Law and Political Science from a recognized university with at least 50% or 3.00 CGPA or its equivalent. In addition, candidates are expected to satisfy the Faculty Postgraduate Board at a placement screening exercise to be conducted by the Institute.

Duration of the Programme

The Full-time programme shall run for a minimum of 12 calendar months and a maximum of 24 calendar months.

MPD 881 Research Methodology 3 Credits

Principle. Methods. Approaches to research and writing. Selection of researchtopics. Research design. Research methodology and research method. Findingmaterials in the library. Using social research methods, referencing, formatting. Ethical issues. Tips on dissertation/project. Defence/Viva voice.45h (T); C

MPD 883 Seminar 2 Credits

Each student under the guidance of an approved supervisor by the Faculty postgraduate board is required to present a seminar.45h (P); C

MPD 899 Dissertation 6 Credits

Each student under the guidance of an approved supervisor is required to conduct research in an area approved by the Institute Postgraduate Committee culminating in the submission of a research project.270h (P); C

Graduation Requirements

For the award of M.Phil. in Parliamentary Administration or progression into Ph.D. degree programme, the candidate must have audited the prescribed courses and submitted the research dissertation based on a preceding research protocol. The provision of Postgraduate School shall apply in the assessment of the research protocol and oral examination of the research project for the award of M.Phil. degree and conversion to Ph.D. degree programme.
