VISION:
The vision of ILS University of Ilorin is “to provide the required manpower for the sustenance of legislative practice, and the strategic transformation of the legislative capacity in Nigeria and Africa”.
RATIONALE:
The rationale behind the establishment of the Institute for Legislative Studies programme is to:
- deliver research-driven training modules leading to the award of Postgraduate Diploma in Legislative Studies based on a dynamic curriculum that grooms’ participants in hands-on and hands-off competencies in a conducive atmosphere that enhances learning and stimulates independent thinking among our students;
- provide a forum for the fluid exchange of research findings, ideas and observations for legislators, executives, civil society actors, academia and other stakeholders in the legislative arena towards ensuring adequate representation and accountable governance;
- provide a forum for a continuous interaction between the various branches of government, the civil society, academia and relevant actors through round-tables, Special-Lecture series and other public engagements; and
- to publish legislative studies journal
AIM: – The Postgraduate Diploma in Legislative Studies degree aims at developing thinkers, practitioners and administrators with adequate theoretical and practical knowledge in all facets of legislative operations, democratic governance, civil society engagement and advocacy.
OBJECTIVES: – Upon completion of the programme, graduates would have:
- gained hands-on and hands-off competencies in all spheres of legislative business;
- acquired theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of legislative studies and practice;
- acquired the capacity to anticipate, manage and resolve conflicts arising from legislative activities;
- internalized right values for principled and issue-based interactions with other arms of government.
